Festivalworkshop

Festival Workshop

with students of European theater universities & of the degree course stage and costume design at the Dresden University of Fine Arts
Theater is performed all over Europe and yet the theater cultures are different. This has to do with traditions as well as with current political and economic situations, such as the financial crises that have almost brought public funding of art and culture to a standstill in some countries. Nevertheless, young people throughout Europe are interested in theater. Fast Forward invites ten students from European theater colleges to visit the festival productions together with students from the HfBK Dresden, to exchange views and meet the directing teams. This year’s guests come from theater universities in Aberystwyth, Frankfurt/M., Gent, Helsinki, Lissabon, Ljubljana, Maastricht, Sofia and Straßburg, and will be accommodated in Dresden by students of the HfBK.
Managing the workshop are:
Stefanie Wenner, Professor of Applied Theater Studies and Production Dramaturgy at the HfBK, dramaturg, curator and freelance theater maker with Thorsten Eibeler and apparatus, Berlin, among others
Tamás Jászay, theater critic, editor, curator and assistant professor at the Institute for Hungarian Language and Literature at the University of Szeged and lecturer at the University for Theater and Film in Budapest
Louise Ritchie, performer, practice based researcher and lecturer in theater and performance at the Department of Theater, Film and Television at the University of Aberystwyth, Wales
André Schallenberg, theater scholar, performance artist and program director for theater and dance in HELLERAU – European Center of the Arts

Fast Forward & Schauspielstudio Dresden

Fast Forward & Acting Studio Dresden

After two years of foundational studies, the acting students of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Leipzig are trained further in their third and fourth years in the studio by experienced ensemble members of the Staatsschauspiel. They participate in productions of the program and develop their own formats. The practical relevance is a special feature of this training model. This year for the first time a studio group will visit all the Fast Forward productions and discuss what they have seen. They will be accompanied by com-pany member Sven Hönig. And who knows, maybe we’ll see one of these students on stage again in the future Fast Forward Award Winner’s Staging.

16.11.2019, 13.30 – 15.30  › HELLERAU – Europäisches Zentrum der Künste – in English or with translation into English
Curiosity about the world and others is part of the cultural practice of research, exchange and inspiration. Internationally oriented residency programs offer resources of various kinds (accommodation, rehearsal rooms, research and study trips, practical experience, financial support, co-production) as well as points of contact for artistic networks. Together with HELLERAU, we have invited speakers from Germany and France to report on models of artist residencies.
For Germany Susanne Traub, Department of Dance and Theater, Goethe Institute & Rosa Müller, Residenzprogramme HELLERAU
For France Lou Colombani, artistic director of Parallèle – Plateform pour la jeune création internationale in Marseille & Hermann Lugan, Institut Français Germany

Festivalbrunch

17.11.2019, 11.00 – 14.00 Uhr  › Kleines Haus Mitte

Festival Brunch

17.11.2019, 11.00 – 14.00  › Kleines Haus Mitte
Provided with sufficient coffee and food, students of the festival workshop will interview the artists of the eight festival performances about their work: Where are they from? What moves them on stage? What will be their subject matter for the future? The festival brunch is open to the public, you are invited to just listening or to get involved yourself. The conversation will take place in German and English and simultaneously translated into both languages.

Publikumspreis

17.11.2019, 22.15 Uhr  › Kleines Haus Mitte

Audience Award

17.11.2019, 22.15  › Kleines Haus Mitte
After four festival days we not only want to know from the festival jury, but also from the audience, which of the shown productions did touch, provoke, made you think or inspired you the most: Simply fill in one of the voting slips available in the foyer and put it into the box provided. Those who like to answer the question “Why?” and add their name and email-address on the voting slip may even win something!

Gäste im Haus

17.11.2019, 22.15 Uhr  › Kleines Haus Mitte

Guests in the House

17.11.2019, 22.15  › Kleines Haus Mitte
In cooperation with Fast Forward, the Dresden Capital of Culture Office 2025 is donating a four-week artist’s residency on the theme of “Neue Heimat” (lit. New Homeland) to one of the eight directors of the current festival edition. The prize will be awarded on the last festival evening by a jury of citizens formed by a public call for entries. The winner is invited to roam through Dresden and/or the region for four weeks and to record a portrait of the city, the country and the people in the form of a one-hour radio program. It’s therefore about the view from the out-side, a visitor who carries their own origins with them and is still young enough to be interested in what the Europe of the future will look like.
The realization is projected in cooperation with the MDR.
