Dear Festival Guests,
OUR STAGE – 4th EUROPEAN BÜRGERBÜHNE FESTIVAL welcomes football fans, mothers, sons, people with and without disabilities, 13-year-old girls, a homeless person, a couple, and many others to the stage – and at the end even the audience itself. We recognize ourselves in some of them, while finding others foreign – regardless of national affiliation. Is it possible for a French and a German football fan to be closer to each other than a Scottish teenager to his own mother?
On many stages throughout Europe, citizens and artists have been experimenting with productions in which citizens take centre stage. As they all gather at this festival in Dresden, a vision of the future is approaching – European citizens who do not see themselves primarily as French or Scottish, but first and foremost as Europeans.
Eleven productions from ten countries on five Dresden stages are awaiting you, as well as a supporting programme of 38 events. More than 220 theatre artists, and over 100 students from six countries will be present, along with 80 members of the European Theatre Convention (ETC) who is festival partner.
Special thanks go to the German Federal Culture Foundation and all other partners and sponsors for their generous support and cooperation!
You, dear audience members, are cordially invited to attend this meeting of European citizens. We wish you a pleasurable experience, full of enriching insights, fascinating encounters, and, above all, lots of fun! We hope you enjoy this festival with us that is only possible in a Europe without borders – a Europe that will answer the major societal and political questions of the future, together as one!Joachim Klement
